Traditionally, when a person or company wants to get media attention they would find them selves turning to local radio stations and TV stations to try and setup interviews.  While these methods are great to get local attention, once the program is over, so is your exposure.  To make things even more difficult you are going to need a very compelling product or service to attract enough attention that the local media is actually interested in what you have to say.

This is where the Internet comes into play, and more specifically blogs.  The following article will give you x reasons why taking your media coverage to the blogosphere is the new age way to go.

5. Longevity

The nice thing about blogs is that once your interview gets posted, wether it is a text interview, a podcast or even a video interview, it is going to stay posted on the blog for as long as the blog stays alive.  This means that future readers may stumble upon the interview with you resulting in a long term stream of new customers.

4. Easier to get Attention

Lets be honest here, your average Joe guy off the street will be unable to approach any of the major local media and expect them to listen to a word he/she says.  You can try writing them explaining your situation and why you are interesting enough to expose to their viewers, but as far as I’m concerned your efforts are better spent contacting influential bloggers who are looking for good content.

3. Global Exposure

Unless your business only caters to local clients, you are really limiting your exposure to local residents with traditional local media.  With blogs, any person anywhere in the world is able to read or watch the interview exposing you to new markets from all around the world.

2. Back Links & SEO

When doing an interview for a blog, chances are the Blogger will link back to your service to give their readers a better understanding of exactly what you are offering.  Every back link you build to your web site will give you more search engine authority.  You will be hard pressed to find somebody who doesn’t want their business to rank in the search engines.

1. Laser Targeted Exposure

Popping on the local morning radio show gives you access to a wide range of people, with a ride range of interests.  If you were paying for advertising, and were expecting results, wouldn’t you rather have your ad on a related show/web site? So why spend all this time trying to get a TV/Radio spot with completely unrelated demographics?  With blog interviews you can find blogs that are very closely related to your business allowing you to laser target exactly what demographics read your interview.  The results? Way higher conversions!

Keep in mind that the really big fish in the industry may not show interest in your right away especially if you are really small, but if you have to, start with the smaller blogs and work your way up.

Like I mentioned in my socializing with communities post, try to work your way into the community.  If you really want to get an interview, do your best to consistently comment on the bloggers posts.  Leave constructive comments with open ended questions forcing the blogger to communicate directly with you (even if its on his/her blog).  Once you’ve become a well known commenter on said blog, you stand a much higher chance of the blogger actually paying attention to your requests.

Now get out there and get some interviews!
